Wireless vs Wired Internet

Published: 01-Jun-2021

India's wired internet (broadband/fiber) penetration is at 7% - among the lowest in the world. As education, work, HD entertainment, gaming, security, appliances - all go online - a household having just wireless internet (mobile) will not be enough.
Wireless will always be limited (either in speed or usage) because spectrum is shared by everyone in a given location. Only a direct line to the home (a dedicated pipe) will be able to give fast and limitless data. And Fiber does just that.
Neither the old telephone wire (DSL/copper wire-max 16 mbps) nor the Cable TV wire (coax cable) can achieve speeds Fiber does. Fiber to home (FTTH) is an explosion waiting to happen. Wireless got India online. Fiber will make India live online.
5G will still have spectrum overload issue in dense areas. So for urban and semi-urban areas, wired works best (faster internet; lower cost since houses nearby). For rural, wireless will work better (fiber will costly here since spread is more aka more cable length)
